AGW or anthropogenic global warming, the theory that morphed into climate change is now purported to explain every weather event that has ever happened or might conceivably happen. Forget what the solar system is doing, which repeats certain cycles that create events like the Maunder Minimum or the Dalton Minimum. Forget all of that stuff. Remember the theory that explains everything, explains nothing. It is not science, it is Scientology, and the high priests are Albert Gore and Michael Mann.

Yesterday I dropped in on the great-horned owl nest just west of our facility in the Prairie Center, Brighton, CO. It was warm, and when I first arrived I just saw a feathery mound, but when I zoomed in the bundle began to grow. The Bubo trio is doing well, and at the end of the video you will see that something distracts them down to the left. I couldn't see anything at the base of the trees as the grass and debris has piled up since the wind storms came through the area. However, I have seen the male on the past few trips, and he has always been on the ground in the area. He takes off when disturbed. Maybe Dad was down there? ...
Finally, a baby eagle head! But it's not a bald eagle, it's a golden! Once again, the golden eagle nest on Wildcat Mountain in Highlands Ranch has at least one eaglet to care for. Last year these experienced parents fledged TWO eagles, which is unusual in goldens. Our good friends at the HRCA Backcountry Wilderness Area would like to remind everyone to observe trail closures on the cliffs above the nest, and on the east side of Monarch, below the nest. Thanks to volunteer monitor (what WOULD we do without these folks?) Libby Price for the photo! ...
Some whimsy for a Wednesday...REF docent Jennifer Jennifer Slebos Redmond sculpted this little dude holding his little falcon as a thank you gift to Curator Anne Price. LOVE the tiny block perch too! Kestrels are laying and incubating eggs right now in the Denver Metro area. ...
I stopped at the owl nest just west of our office yesterday, and when I first glanced up everything looked as it has been over the past few days. However, as I zoomed in the outline sharpened and got bigger to reveal a very pleasant surprise! Enjoy. ...
Friday the 13th was a little scary at the great-horned owl nest just west of our office in Brighton. The winds were very strong and I had to shoot from inside my vehicle to have any stability at all. Despite all of that, I was very lucky when I zoomed in. The female had somehow compressed her large mass into the bowl of the nest and as I watched, I received a very pleasant surprise. I'm wondering what was going on inside that little Bubo brain? ...
